Abrelatam
Abrelatam, together with Condatos, is one of the main and oldest events in Latin America aimed at the promotion, research, publication and use of open data, very close to topics such as open government, civic technology, digital government, data journalism, digital rights, smart cities, transparency, accountability, equity, access to information and much more.
Since 2013, the event duo has been a cradle and meeting point for a large and diverse community from all Spanish-speaking countries in Central America, the Caribbean and South America, as well as participants from North America and Europe.
Its proposal is unique in the synergy of two twinned events, but with clearly identified profiles, which connect and articulate governmental and institutional actors in a more traditional event format, such as Condatos, with civil society and academic actors in an open, highly flexible and unrestricted format, such as Abrelatam.
Its governance is also an extremely important differentiating element, since the organization of the event alternates from year to year by different countries based on agreements between governments and civil society actors. In 2024, Open Knowledge Brazil is the civil society entity responsible for the organization of Abrelatam, acting as the guardian of the fundamental principles of the event.
