General information
Open America is an event that brings together major international meetings focused on the research, publication and use of open data related to topics such as transparency, access to information, open government, civic technologies, data journalism, digital government, accountability and equity. It will take place in Brazil for the first time in 2024.
Open America will be held from December 3 to 6 in Brasília, in the Federal District.
Abrelatam and Condatos are tracks of the event, as well as the Brazilian Conference on Data Journalism and Digital Methods (Coda.Br), the BR Data Week, the Regional Meeting of the Alliance for Open Government, among others.
This year, the themes of the event will be collective construction, the power of openness, better lives and the future is open.
Program
The call for activities for the Open America program is now live and will remain open until September 15, 2024. After this stage, the event’s Agenda Committee, together with the Local Organizing Committee, will decide on the choice of activities. The final response for accepted activities is expected by October 15, 2024.
You can send one or more proposals for activities to Coda.Br or Condatos, and also contribute to the agenda of the Open Government Meeting. Contribution forms will be open until September 15, 2024.
Unfortunately not. The deadline for submitting proposals for Coda.Br, Condatos or suggestions for topics for the Open Government Meeting expired on September 15. The organization of the event has a very short timeline for evaluating the proposals received, so it will not be possible to make further extensions or receive new activity proposals via email.
The deadline for responses on the Condatos or Coda.Br program is October 15. We will send you a message to let you know whether your proposal has been accepted or not.
The preview of the Open America program is due to be published shortly in the “Programming” section until November 8, 2024.
Registration
Everyone interested in open government and open data issues on the American continent is invited to participate in the event. This includes people working in government, civil society, academia, the private sector, multilateral organizations, donors and more.
The application form is expected to open on September 20, 2024.
The event is free for anyone who wants to take part. However, participants are responsible for their own expenses, including travel and accommodation.
Yes, everyone who wants to take part in the event must register, even if they have previously submitted a proposal for an activity or a proposal to organize a session.
No, registration will be done via a single form, where you can select which events (tracks) you would like to take part in.
No. This year’s Open America will be entirely face-to-face, although some sessions may be broadcast on the YouTube channels of the organizations holding the event.
Event scholarships
No. Unfortunately, the deadline for applying for scholarships was October 15th.
No. There is a scholarship committee and it will decide on all applications, taking into account the criteria provided in the application form (racial, gender and geographical diversity). We will contact you to let you know whether or not your scholarship application has been accepted.
Visa
Brazil adopts a visa policy based on the principle of reciprocity. This means that nationals of countries that require visas from Brazilian citizens to enter their territories will also need a visa to travel to Brazil, in accordance with Brazilian migration legislation. On the application form, answer “Yes” to the question “Will you need a letter of invitation from the Brazilian government when applying for your visa to enter the country?”. When you have finished filling in the form, you will receive an email containing a PDF file with your full name and the invitation letter. Download and save it.
