BRASÍLIA, DF – BRASIL
From December 3rd to 6th, 2024

History

The events were born in 2013 out of the shared interest of ECLAC, the OAS, the Uruguayan government and Data Uruguay in bringing together for the first time people and organizations working in the field of open data, which was still in its infancy in the region. The response to this call resulted in a first edition in Montevideo, which was not only a success, but also proved to be the birth of a broad, diverse and dynamic community that needed to go beyond this meeting.

We opted for rotating and shared governance, which has allowed the event to grow substantially, approaching different countries and realities in a flexible way, but maintaining the basic formula. It has thus been held in Mexico (2014), Chile (2015), Colombia (2016), Costa Rica (2017), Argentina (2018), Ecuador (2019), an online edition, “Abrelatam at home” with the government of Panama (2020), an online edition “Abrelatam Futuros” (2021) and a return to face-to-face events in the Dominican Republic (2022).

Each edition of Abrelatam/Condatos brings together an average of 500 participants, with approximately 50% from the international public and 50% from the host country.
